Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated 'Seva Teerth' – the new Prime Minister's Office complex in Delhi's Central Vista project. The name 'Seva Teerth' (literally 'Pilgrimage of Service') comes with the motto 'Nagrik Devo Bhava' (Citizen is God), symbolizing a shift from colonial-era buildings to a citizen-centric, service-oriented governance.But here's the reality check:
A heavily protected, high-security fortress housing the PMO, Cabinet Secretariat, and National Security Council can never truly become a public 'teerth' (sacred place open to all). Without genuine political accountability, transparency in decision-making, and a pro-people attitude that puts citizens above power structures, no amount of renaming or grand architecture can make a building a real place of seva (selfless service).
Is 'Seva Teerth' just another symbolic rebrand, or does it reflect actual change in how power is exercised in India?
