The sound of a child's cries calls up something instinctual in us - and yet, contemporary parenting culture often tells us not to respond to a child's cries, despite what our intuition may tell us. So how should we respond when our child has a meltdown and/or bursts into tears?
In this video, Maggie and I also talk about co-regulation and dysregulation. We discuss the meaning behind these terms as well as what they look like in both parents AND children. How can we co-regulate with our child in times of big emotions? What does that look like?
