In 1993, Williams helped push Formula 1 into the modern era with their revolutionary FW15C. The car featured technology such as traction control, ABS, a drive-by-wire throttle, pneumatic valves, and a whole lot of sensors and computers for advanced telemetry to help ensure peak performance all the time.
But there was one thing that Williams brought to the track for the 1993 Formula 1 season that never saw the light of day for an actual race, and that was their prototype continuously variable transmission. It's the only F1 car to ever have driven with a CVT, and it was so fast that it was immediately banned from Formula 1 by the FIA. But that might not be the whole story...
