MUSEVENI ASSUMES CHAIRMANSHIP OF EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY SUMMIT IN ARUSHA

Описание: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially assumed the chairmanship of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit, pledging to strengthen regional integration, trade, and cooperation among member states.

The handover took place during the EAC Heads of State Summit held in Arusha, Tanzania, where leaders from across the region gathered to discuss key issues affecting the bloc, including economic growth, security, and infrastructure development.

In his acceptance speech, President Museveni emphasized the importance of unity and deeper economic integration among the partner states. He noted that the prosperity of the region depends on strengthening cooperation in trade, industrialization, and the free movement of people and goods.

Museveni called upon member countries to remove barriers that hinder cross-border trade and to invest more in regional infrastructure such as roads, railways, and energy projects. He said these developments would help unlock the economic potential of the East African region and improve livelihoods for millions of citizens.

The Ugandan leader also highlighted the need for peace and stability within the region, noting that security cooperation remains essential for sustainable development and regional prosperity.

As chairperson of the summit, Museveni will guide discussions and policy direction of the regional bloc over the coming year, working closely with leaders from partner states including Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, and host nation Tanzania.

The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organization that aims to promote economic, political, and social integration among its member states, with the long-term goal of establishing a political federation.

Museveni’s new role is expected to strengthen Uganda’s influence in regional affairs while advancing the EAC’s agenda of building a more integrated and prosperous East Africa.
