In earlier videos, we saw the importance and power of the opposition, but also that gaining the opposition is not always enough. In many positions, White can have the opposition and still make no progress.
In this video, we look at positions where White gains the opposition in front of the pawn, and we'll see why this changes the character of the endgame.
We’ll focus in particular on what happens as the pawn reaches the fifth and sixth ranks, and why opposition that was previously effective for Black can suddenly prove meaningless.
