Even after more than seven decades of independence, residents of a small settlement in Panaje continue to struggle without proper road or bridge connectivity. The Nirolya area in the village, where around 10–15 families live, has remained cut off from basic infrastructure for nearly 80 years.
Villagers have been forced to use a narrow footpath through hilly terrain to reach nearby markets and towns. During the monsoon, heavy water flow makes it extremely difficult for residents to travel outside the village. School children often have to stay home, and elderly people are unable to leave their houses for months. Medical emergencies become even more challenging as patients have to be physically carried to reach transport.
Recently, local residents along with support from the Ambedkar Tatva Rakshana Vedike built a small stretch of road using their own funds to allow limited vehicle access. However, the lack of a proper bridge across the stream remains a major problem. Villagers have appealed to MLA Ashok Kumar Rai to construct a small bridge before the monsoon season. Officials from the Panaje Gram Panchayat say funds have been proposed and work will begin once they are released.
The residents now hope that long-pending infrastructure needs will finally be addressed.
