Nigeria’s electricity sector faces significant challenges, including stranded power and inefficient transmission. Despite generating over 3,500 MW, much of Nigeria's power is not effectively delivered due to a weak grid infrastructure. To tackle these issues, President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the Grid Asset Management Company Limited (GAMCO) with an 11-member committee to oversee improvements in grid management and transmission. Dr Idowu Oyebanjo, MD of Idfon Powering Engineering Consultants, joins us to discuss the technical weaknesses in Nigeria's power grid, how GAMCO could improve grid efficiency, and the practical steps Nigeria must take to address its electricity crisis.
