Dr. Banks discusses Genetics for Low Methane Livestock with panelist:

Dr. Yvette de Haas
Dr. Yvette de Haas is a Programme Manager in Animal Breeding and Genomics at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands. Her work focuses on improving the sustainability of livestock systems through advanced genetic selection, including strategies to lower methane emissions while preserving animal health, productivity, and resilience. Yvette leads international research collaborations and contributes to efforts shaping breeding programs that integrate environmental goals.

Dr. Troy Rowan
Dr. Troy Rowan is an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee’s Genomics Center for the Advancement of Agriculture. His research uses genomics to understand and predict complex traits in beef cattle, with a focus on improving local adaptation, exploiting heterosis, and improving forage-based sustainability. Troy also serves as an extension beef cattle specialist, educating producers and industry partners on genetics and sustainability in Tennessee and nationwide.

Dr. Elly Navajas
Dr. Elly Navajas is a Senior Researcher at Uruguay's National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), specializing in animal breeding and genetics. With a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, her research focuses on improving feed efficiency and mitigating methane emissions in cattle and sheep. Since 2023, Elly has coordinated the PROCISUR Working Group on Sustainable Livestock Production, with a focus on the Southern Cone.

Dr. Matthew Cleveland
Dr. Matthew Cleveland is Senior Director of Global Bovine Sustainability at ABS Global, a division of Genus plc. With a Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Colorado State University and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he leads sustainability initiatives and the development of sustainability products in beef and dairy sectors. Matthew’s innovative approach aims to enhance sustainable food production through advanced genetic solutions.

Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam
Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam is a Distinguished Professor of Cooperative Extension in Animal Genomics and Biotechnology at UC Davis. Her research focuses on applying DNA-based biotechnologies to livestock production systems and the development of genome editing approaches for ruminants. An award-winning communicator, Alison has delivered over 800 global presentations on agricultural biotechnology.
