Elephant goes berserk at temple festival, kills one in India's Kerala | ABS-CBN News

Описание: An elephant that was brought for a temple festival went berserk, killing one, in southwestern Indian state of Kerala on Friday (May 1).

Local authorities fired tranquillizer darts at the elephant to subdue it. The elephant was then chained to a tree near the temple.

The victim, reported to be the driver who had transported the animal, was trampled to death. The elephant also injured a mahout and wrecked vehicles.

Another elephant rampage incident in Kerala that claimed the life of a mahout on Friday has reignited debate over the use of captive elephants at temple festivals, according to local media.

Experts and activists say stress, noise, and long hours in crowds can make captive elephants dangerous. Many are now calling for tighter rules and better checks to keep both people and animals safe.
