Kuvira was a master metalsmith who served as the political and military leader of both the Earth Kingdom and the Earth Empire. Prior to her rise to power, she was taken in by Suyin Beifong and became a prominent member of the Metal Clan , serving as captain of the guard in Zaofu and part of the city's dance troupe. Following the outbreak of anarchy in the Earth Kingdom following the assassination of Earth Queen Hou-Ting, Kuvira left the Metal Clan and gained the trust of world leaders by stabilizing Ba Sing Se, being named interim leader of the nation. Over the next three years, she set about reuniting the rest of the kingdom with her military, earning her the title of "Great Uniter", and plotting total takeover of the Earth Kingdom into an empire. With the support of her military, she could expand across all nations.
