The MAF or mass airflow sensor measures the amount of air flowing into your engine and helps the computer to determine how much fuel to inject into the combustion chamber. When the MAF sensor isn't working properly you could experience rough idling, engine hiccups, or stalling. Watch as we show you how to clean or replace your MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor.

Start by locating your MAF sensor… on this vehicle it’s between the air filter box and the intake hose.
There’s an electrical connection that plugs in at the side.
Remove the plug and use your ratchet to loosen the bolts on the air filter box… and lift it up.
Now is a good time to change your air filter if it’s looking dirty [show this] [link to video].
Loosen the clamps holding the MAF sensor to the air filter box and intake hose, and remove the unit.
If you’re replacing it, put your new sensor in place and install it by connecting the hoses… tightening the clamps… and bolting down the air filter box.
If you’re cleaning your existing MAF sensor, take the component away from the engine into a well-ventilated area.
Only use MAF sensor cleaner… other cleaning fluids can cause damage and leave unwanted residue.
Use the cleaner to spray the interior thoroughly to remove any dirt that may have accumulated.
A small amount of buildup can give your engine faulty readings, so don’t be afraid to use plenty of cleaner.
You may even want to spray it down several times.
Follow the directions on your cleaner to allow for sufficient drying time before reinstalling.
It’s possible that cleaning the sensor won’t be enough to get it working again, and it will need to be replaced.
