HRF Calls for Justice for Navalny's Imprisoned Lawyers

On January 17, 2025, Russian lawyers Vadim Kobzev and Alexei Liptser, members of Alexei Navalny’s legal team, were sentenced to more than five years in prison on politically motivated charges. Kobzev and Liptser represented Alexei Navalny following his 2021 arrest at Moscow’s airport and advocated for his humane treatment in detention. Their prosecution is part of the Kremlin’s broader assault on the rule of law and reflects a disturbing trend of targeting lawyers simply for performing their professional duties. Human Rights Foundation (HRF) Chair Yulia Navalnaya speaks about their case and the ongoing attacks on the rule of law in Russia. On the first anniversary of their sentencing, HRF submitted their case to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD), seeking international accountability and their immediate release.
