The DSM-V provides a new approach to diagnose acquired brain injury. We discuss this change in this video from Dementia in the DSM III-TR back in the early in 1980s to Major and Mild Neurocognitive Disorder in the DSM-V and DSM-V-TR today.
We also look at several different subtypes within these categories as well such as Major/Mild Neurocognitive Disorder Due to Vascular Problems, Major/Mild Neurocognitive Disorder Due to Traumatic Brain Injury, and Major/Mild Neurocognitive Disorder Due to Substance Abuse/Medication. We also talk about modifiers to these diagnoses such as with and without behavior disorders.
Lastly we ask why there needs to be such a thing as diagnosis at all? What is the purpose of diagnosing illness anyway.
