We start on the quiet forest tracks of Boserup Woods, snow covering everything in a soft white layer. Mille, my 25-month-old Landseer, moves calmly at first — nose low, reading the ground like a book. Step by step we leave the beaten paths and begin following her instincts instead of the trail markers.

Along the way we pass a small hill dating back more than 1,000 years to the Viking Age — a silent reminder of how long humans have walked these woods. Snow rests on the old earthwork and a lone oak stands guard above it, unchanged while centuries have passed.

Then everything shifts.

We encounter a flock of fallow deer crossing our path. Mille locks on instantly. From that moment, it’s no longer a relaxed walk — it becomes a controlled chaos of tracking, tension on the leash, and determined pulling as she tries to follow the herd deeper into the forest.
