This small Southeast Asian nation gave the world the Timor Hybrid, a rust-resistant coffee variety that helped save the global industry from Coffee Leaf Rust. Today, it remains one of Timor-Leste’s most important exports — and a symbol of resilience.

Yet, behind every cup, farmers face daily challenges: volatile prices, climate threats, and limited access to markets. That’s where Fairtrade comes in.

Through Fairtrade, coffee farmers are gaining fairer prices, building climate resilience, investing in clean water and education, and empowering women to lead. Two cooperatives — C-CAT and Haburas Kafé Organiku — are at the heart of this transformation, working with over 1,400 farmers and reaching more than 12,600 beneficiaries across Timor-Leste.
