Drakeford all but admits Senedd is glorified council

Mark Drakeford reeled off a list of present and ex-Senedd members earlier, made up exclusively of failed local councillors. It will no doubt reinforce the public's perception of the Senedd as a glorified council chamber.

The calibre of names Drakeford listed made for depressing hearing. These people are in charge of our NHS, education and our economy. They've even got tax raising powers. We hate to be rude, but these people simply aren't of the quality to run these things to the standard we rightly expect.

Drakeford gave a special mention to Sue Essex, "one of the most influential figures of her time". Don't worry, the name escapes us too ...

Among the other names mentioned was current Social Justice Minister Jane Hutt, who leads on many of the Senedd's most unpopular policies including the Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers, Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, LGBTQ+ Action Plan and Wales for Africa programme. That's what you get when you put these types in charge.

The days of local government in Wales being the home of high profile "big beasts" like Lord Jack Brooks are long gone. Former Cardiff Council leader @GoodwayCardiff is probably the last of that breed. Drawing Senedd members from the current crop of councillors probably explains why Wales is so badly run. They just aren't up to it.

Drakeford may be full of praise for those featuring on his list, but we suspect the rest of Wales won't. If anything, it'll lead to further calls for the Senedd to be scrapped.
