In 2008, gnarly bay setup shop in the Brown building in downtown Westerly, RI. Over the years as our business grew, we had to improve the space to keep up with not only the ever increasing amount of physical space needed for gear, boxes, hard drives and edit stations, but the talented filmmakers that have passed through the janky french doors into our windowless basement. In 2011, we did our best attempt at a renovation. It felt like a fresh start and it kept us going for the next ten years of commercials, bachelor parties, ping pong round table discussions and tournaments, passion projects and documentaries.

Over the course of that decade, gnarly bay has changed a lot. New faces, new clients, operating systems, software, hardware and workflows. In the last three years however, after the building’s ownership exchanged hands a few times and finally landed in the clutches of an evil condominium development corporation (well, not really... but there were days it felt like that), it dawned on us that it might be time for a grand exodus.

Fast forward to November 2021, through weddings, growing families, purchased homes, rising decibels of construction noise...and even a pandemic. We are finally moving out of the basement. Where to?

About a hundred feet away. To an ancient, cathedral of a bank right next store with towering ceilings, inspiring old school architecture and all the steel vaults a small video production company could ever need to store their 500 terabytes of hopes and dreams. A new beginning...complete with more natural sunlight, and we’re so excited for what’s in store for this incredible space in this beautiful small town we call home.

And for all the folks who’ve passed through gnarly bay we could not be more proud of the work we’ve done with each and every one of you. When the world finds it’s new normal, we’ll see you all here at the bank, for some stories, screenings, ping pong battles and maybe even some musical shenanigans.
