Описание: The reason for FBI director Kash Patel’s secret visit to Wellington has been revealed: It’s to open a permanent FBI base in New Zealand.

Patel jetted into Wellington on Wednesday, to meet with the police and spy bosses, as well as the ministers of foreign affairs, defence, spies, and police. His visit had been kept under wraps, with the US Embassy initially refusing to confirm or deny he was here.

But on Thursday afternoon, Patel appeared to catch the New Zealand Government off guard when he issued a statement confirming the FBI was setting up a permanent office in Wellington.

He said that office would combat China’s influence in the Pacific.
