Unity Concert Media Launch

Описание: The Unity Concert is a landmark cultural event to be staged at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, in June 2026. Its central purpose is to honour and re-imagine the historic 1985 Concert in the Park, when more than 120,000 South Africans gathered in a powerful act of unity across racial and social divides at the height of Apartheid.
It was a day when Apartheid was briefly suspended and South Africans held hands and sang and danced together for the very first time.
The 2026 Unity Concert places this extraordinary moment in South African cultural history at the heart of its narrative, bringing together the artists, spirit, and legacy of Concert in the Park with a new generation of South African and global performers.

The event will also form part of the national commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Student Uprising, anchoring the concert at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, the symbolic heart of that history.
The project is supported by the City of Johannesburg, who is donating the Orlando Stadium and related services, and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, reflecting its importance as a civic, cultural, and national initiative.

SABC TV have come on board as broadcast sponsors and co-producers of the documentary. It will be streamed live on SABC+ and a highlights package will be broadcast on SABC2. The reach is expected to be in excess of 1 million people.
