SOME THINGS NOT MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO:
Transporting between islands:
Ferries are an easy way to transport between the Greek islands, however, due to the distance between Milos & Zakynthos, we decided to fly instead.
Time of year:
We traveled to the Greek Islands in September which is a shoulder month following their busy season. It was the perfect time to travel as the popular locations were not nearly as crowded yet the weather was still hot & perfect for a beach day. One of the locals described the islands as a six month on/six month off schedule. This means that the islands are prepped and ready for tourists six months out of the year and the other six months, many restaurants and businesses geared towards tourists (ie. rental shops, tours, souvenir shops, etc.) are closed due to it being off season. September was perfect as everything was open and running as it does in the busier seasons.
THE LOCALS:
Everyone we encountered was AMAZING. From our airbnb hosts to those working at the boat rental places, everyone was so helpful & informative of the islands. Our airbnb host explained the attractions & hidden gems of the island. He even went so far as to recommend exploring the southern beaches first because later that week, the winds & waves would be coming up from the south. Most of the locals we met spoke English or broken English and were very pleasant to be around.
Drinking Water:
As you can see in a lot of the videos, we have a large water bottle with us. Although I had read prior to our visit that Greek water was fine to drink, most restaurants and other places will give you a large bottle of water so that is what we stuck with the entire trip. Most cafes, restaurants, and convenient stores carried bottles of water that you could buy so we were never short of enough.
Things to pack:
snorkel gear
sunscreen
water shoes (some beaches were pretty rocky, ie Tsigrado Beach)
Cash or Credit card?
Both! Most place take credit cards and we used that the most. The only times we needed cash (Euros) was for the taxis, which we used to and from the airports, and the lifeguard to retrieve our anchor that was stuck in the rocks at Myzithres. So yes, carry some cash with you, but for the most part you will be fine with a credit card.
