I heard Deafheaven for the first time when Roads to Judah was released in 2011 and I was extremely impressed by its combination of atmospheric black metal, post-rock and shoegaze. With Sunbather, they released a true masterpiece and one of my favourite albums of all time. I still feel lucky to have seen them live shortly after the release of Sunbather in a small venue before they really broke through. Honeycomb is my favourite track from their latest album (Ordinary Corrupt Human Love) with its melancholic black metal beginning, upbeat Dinosaur Jr.-like middle section and beautiful Mogwai-like ending.
Deafheaven has definitely become of my favourite bands and being able to play one of their songs is a goal I have pursued for quite some time. Daniel Tracy is an incredible drummer with quick one-foot blastbeats and relentless fills. Now, I am finally at the point where I can comfortably play a Deafheaven song, which I am very proud of.
