Understanding and analyzing the real-time movements of thick, black smoke that often suffocates the air during a wildfire is vital information for firefighters as they work to contain California's massive wildfires. For over a decade Neil Lareau, assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, has researched high impact weather, including fire weather and wildfire plume dynamics. Lareau's research includes studying the Caldor and Dixie fires actively burning in Northern California. KCRA 3 Investigates' Brittany Johnson spoke with Lareau about the plumes of smoke brewing over the two fires and what it means in the fight to extinguish the wildfires.
