In a strategic move, the Dangote Refinery has decided to rely on Angola-based vessels for the transportation of crude and refined products due to a significant shortage of suitable ships in Nigeria. Speaking at the 2025 Maritime Law Seminar in Lagos, Ladi Olubowale, President of the African Shipowners Association, highlighted that Nigerian shipowners lack the necessary Supermax, Suezmax, and Aframax vessels required for such operations. This absence limits Nigeria's ability to play a crucial role in the logistics chain of the refinery.
Captain Tajudeen Alao of the Nigerian Association of Master Mariners has urged the government to expedite the release of the long-awaited Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF). This fund is essential for boosting local shipping capacity and increasing participation in regional energy logistics. Join us for an insightful discussion on these maritime challenges and opportunities with Bello Tukur, Managing Director of Riverlake.
