डिस्क के आस-पास मौजूद नसों पर दबाव पड़ने को ही स्लिप डिस्क कहते हैं। स्लिप डिस्क की परेशानी लम्बे समय तक एक ही पॉश्चर में बैठने से, लेटकर या झुक कर काम करने से,बॉडी एक्टिविटी में कमी आने से,ज्यादा काम करने से, लम्बे समय तक गाड़ी ड्राइव करने से होती है। महिलाओं में ये परेशानी प्रेग्नेंसी के बाद हो सकती है। आमतौर पर यह परेशानी चोट या सूजन की वजह से होता है। इस स्थिति में डिस्क अपनी सामान्य सीमाओं से आगे बढ़ जाती हैं, उनमें सूजन आ जाती है और डिस्क के बाहरी हिस्से में दरार या छेद होने लगते हैं। ऐसे में, डिस्क के अंदर मौजूद तरल पदार्थ न्यूक्लियस पल्पोसस (Nucleus Pulposus) का रिसाव होने लगता है। स्लिप डिस्क के इलाज में माइक्रो डिस्केक्टॉमी (Microdiscectomy) तकनीक कारगर साबित हुई है. इसमें ऑपरेशन के जरिए दबी हुई नस को ठीक किया जाता है, जिससे स्लिप डिस्क के दर्द से राहत मिल सकती है.! ज्यादातर मामलों में, हर्नियेटेड डिस्क का दर्द कुछ दिनों में ठीक हो जाएगा और 4 से 6 सप्ताह में पूरी तरह ठीक हो जाएगा। अपनी गतिविधि को सीमित करने, बर्फ/गर्मी चिकित्सा और ओवर-द-काउंटर दवाएं लेने से आपको ठीक होने में मदद मिलेगी।
