Decomposed granite (DG) is actually very low maintenance, but every once in a while does require a little love. After about five years after installation, I’m doing a light cleaning and resurfacing.
1. Scrape off and remove any weeds that might be present.
2. Brush off any debris and larger particles of DG.
3. Dampen existing DG with water (helps the contact the the new layer).
4. Sprinkle on New DG. Coarse DG works, but fine is better. But ultimately you want to match what you already have.
5. brush it over the surface and into any cracks. Go over it until it’s nice and smooth.
6. Wet it down and let it dry.
Note that with some applications, you may want to tamp in the new layer. This will help it adhere better to the existing DG.
