And yes — Lakshmir Bhandar is now ₹1500
But before we celebrate, let’s zoom out.
In Karnataka’s last budget:
• Startup marketing costs got 30% support
• R&D got up to 40% subsidy
• Local hiring = direct incentives
• Women entrepreneurs got 5–10L loans at 4%
Same word — bhata.
Very different outcomes.
Globally, welfare works only when:
• it’s time-bound
• linked to jobs, skills, or active job search
That linkage is missing here.
What happens then?
• Youth lose incentive to upskill
• Businesses struggle to hire talent
• Productivity drops
• Economy pays the price
Spain, Venezuela, even Germany faced this.
And the money?
Either higher bills, or higher deficit — from our taxes.
This isn’t political.
Some steps are genuinely good.
But without jobs, skills, and business support, it’s incomplete.
