Custom Upgraded WPL C74/C74-1 Suzuki Jimny

I have combined the original C74 leaf sprung chassis with the new C74-1 soft top Jimny body. This is the same specification that the C74-1 is sold in by WPL Japan.

The chassis has been converted to axle over spring configuration to better replicate the specification of a real life JA11 Jimny. This conversion retains most stock parts, but I have used my own design CNC cut GRP on axle servo mount. This drops the servo closer to the axle than the standard part and retains some of the upward suspension travel. Some of the chassis plastics have also had a slight trim to help with this.

This model has been built with the WPL metal axle kit, a great way to add durability and steering angle, but the biggest advantage it brings is low down weight shifting the center of gravity in the right direction. This axle kit is now supplied from WPL with slightly longer shafts specifically to suit the C74/74-1 wheelbase. Upgrade parts linked below.

The stock single speed gearbox has been swapped out for a WPL two speed, the low range gear giving even better climbing ability and slow controlled crawling.

This is paired with the excellent WPL Res-V3 electronics to control the gearbox. I've also taken advantage of the fourth output channel on the Res-V3 that has an integrated winch controller. The WPL winch is fitted using the C74 upgrade High Clearance front bumper.

The wheels on this one are my own 3D printed design - files linked below. These are made to a true scale 16" size and have LDRC Unimog upgrade tyres stretched around them.

The C74-1 body is mostly stock, but it has been trimmed around the rear apron and sill/rocker panels. There are also, as yet unwired, LED lamps set into the rear door.
