The EU spokesperson stressed that the Commission’s priority is to reach the users of the platform directly. With millions of people still active on X, the EU believes that there is no better way to convey concerns about what is happening on the platform than through the platform itself.

The Commission underlined that users have the right to understand what is going on on the services they use every day. This is why the EU remains present — to ensure clarity, transparency, and direct communication with the audience.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the Commission is active on 15 different social media platforms and regularly measures reach and impact. While acknowledging concerns about bots or audience quality, the EU noted that X remains the second-largest platform in Europe in terms of outreach for EU institutions.

No final decision has been taken on future presence, and the Commission emphasized that assessments are ongoing and continuous.
