Heads of State from more than fifty countries attended a V-E Day
Banquet in London on Saturday (6/5). Britain's Queen Elizabeth II
hosted the banquet, the biggest gathering of Heads of State since
her own coronation in 1953. King Hussein of Jordan, the longest
reigning monarch invited, was a guest of honour. Reflecting the
spirit of reconciliation that is a feature of the celebrations,
German Chancellor Helmut Kohl was among the guests. Also present
were United States vice President Al Gore and his wife Tipper.
Leading politicians were invited, among them former British Prime
Minister, Margaret Thatcher.
