This simulation shows a scenario in which a German Leopard 2A6 targets the turret of a Russian T-90 tank (no ERA attached at that spot) with a WSM Tungsten Alloy DM53 APFSDS at a distance of 800m.
The original T-90 (T-72BU) used a T-72B turret with Kontakt-5 ERA, Shtora-1 and an upgraded fire control system from the T-80U called 1A45T Irtysh. Here the Kontakt-5 is considered to be missing at the target spot.
At the same time as the project called Object-188, which later became the T-90/T-72BU, there was a more advanced prototype built called Object-187 with a better protected welded turret. In 2005, a version of this turret was put on the original T-90’s hull and this became the T-90A.
On the other hand, the Leopard 2A6 entered into service with the German army in 2001. The first version of the Leopard 2 tank was produced for the first time in 1979, more than 3,000 LEOPARD 2's currently in service with eleven nations. Recently, it was reported that the Ukrainian army has received 21 units of this tank.
