Описание: In November 2025 the Sun unleashed its most powerful solar flare of the entire year - a massive X5.1 class eruption that sent shockwaves through Earth's space weather environment. Active Region 4274 had been building toward this moment for days, developing a dangerous beta-gamma-delta magnetic configuration - the most complex and unstable type of sunspot structure that produces the most intense solar flares. The X5.1 flare was the culmination of a remarkable sequence, following an X1.7 on November 9th and an X1.2 on November 10th, each one winding the magnetic tension tighter until the region finally released with tremendous force. We know from space weather science that beta-gamma-delta sunspots have opposite magnetic polarities squeezed together within the same penumbra, creating enormous potential for magnetic reconnection and powerful X-class flares. The eruption launched a super-fast coronal mass ejection traveling at nearly 1,950 kilometers per second toward Earth, triggering a rare G4 severe geomagnetic storm and lighting up auroras as far south as Florida, Texas, and Mexico. With Solar Cycle 25 having exceeded all predictions and this being the strongest flare since October 2024's X9.0 event, this extraordinary solar outburst reminded us of the Sun's immense power and the real threat posed by Earth-directed solar storms. Space and geophysics educator Regin Gallagher breaks down the latest news from the frontline of our Sun.
