Brisbane's airport rail link known as ‘Airtrain’ is expensive, underutilised, and infrequent compared to other airport rail links around Australia and the world. With Brisbane’s exploding population and the 2032 Brisbane Olympics on the horizon, Airtrain is expected to play a crucial role in connecting the airport and the city. However, substantial improvements in service frequency and affordability are required to make this happen. This situation raises pressing questions: How did these issues arise? What changes need to be made to make AirTrain viable? And how can the errors made in the planning and construction of AirTrain be avoided for future rail infrastructure projects?

Throughout the video, the public-private partnership deal between AirTrain and the government is criticised. We are not implying that public-private partnerships are inherently flawed as a project delivery framework, but instead are unsuitable for delivering essential public services where the private entity stands to profit from the services provided afterward, such as in public transport or healthcare projects.

Corrections
1. It was incorrectly claimed that the value of AirTrain would increase leading up to the Olympics. This is incorrect as the evaluation of AirTrain would have already taken into account the patronage increase from the Olympics when the Olympics announcement was made. Therefore the value of AirTrain will fall as time goes on.
