Chiricahua National Monument is a "Wonderland of Rocks" that covers an area of 12,025 acres. The monument was established on April 18, 1924, to protect its extensive hoodoos and balancing rocks. Visitors can explore the beauty, natural sounds, and inhabitants of this site by taking the 8-mile paved scenic drive and 17 miles of day-use hiking trails.
The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, mountain lions, and Mexican spotted owls. Visitors can also enjoy stargazing at night, as the monument is located in one of Arizona's seven sky islands.
The land within this wilderness holds cultural and spiritual significance for the Chiricahua Apache, who called it the Land of Standing-Up Rocks.
