Gautam Gambhir's tenure as India's white-ball coach has largely been impressive, delivering an ICC and ACC title across the two limited-overs formats, but the picture is far less flattering in Tests. With ten defeats against SENA nations, the same praise does not apply to red-ball cricket. It is understood that, soon after India's crushing home defeat to South Africa in the two-Test series last month, a senior figure within the board once again quietly sounded out VVS Laxman to see whether he would consider taking charge of the Test side.
