EDIT An additional 500 baht was paid for the escort from the Thai side to the Laos side.
This is based on Thailand registered bikes which are our own bikes (*NOTE* If you have a rental bike, you can obtain a letter of permission from rental companies, which will allow you to take the rental bike across).
The current rules are that only bikes 250cc and up are permitted to enter, but you can always try.
Make sure all tax and registration etc is up to date.
