READ BEFORE WORKING OUT:
In this video, I demonstrate 4 compound exercises that improve overall body strength. Compound exercises integrate multiple muscle groups in one movement, which is why you can get a full body workout with just these 4 exercises. Compound exercises are the most functional workout activities that a footballer can do, as it incorporates explosive movements that will improve fast twitch muscle performance.
Muscles Worked in Back Squats: Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Core.
Muscles Worked in Shoulder Press: Shoulders, Triceps, Upper Back, Core.
Muscles Worked in Bench Press: Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Upper Back, Core.
Muscles Worked in Pull Ups: Biceps, Traps, Core.
Sets and Reps:
Back Squats - 3 x 5 reps
Shoulder Press - 3 x 5 reps
Bench Press - 3 x 5 reps
Pull Ups - 3 x 5 reps
As footballers, when we work out we are going for strength benefits, we are not trying to put on lots of muscle mass. So the key is to keep the weight high, but the reps low.
IMPORTANT:
Before working out, you should learn proper form. I would suggest doing these exercises without weight added, to allow your body to learn the proper form to avoid injury and get the best benefits from the workout. If needed, seek the assistance of a personal trainer to help achieve correct form.
