Traditionally fire season starts on October 15, however, due to our State’s drought, conditions have been ripe for a year round fire season.
Northern California is taking a beating from Mother Nature. Wildfires, like the King Fire, destroyed dozens of homes and consumed acres of land.
So far this year, the State has had 1,000 more wildfires compared to the average.
This fire season, firefighters say it only takes one hot day, dry weather or Santa Ana winds to cause major destruction in Los Angeles.
Fire fighters are prepared for the worst. Council District Seven is home to a number of communities that border the Foothills. In those areas, residents are very familiar with wildfires and they have been through the worst with the Merrick Fire and the Sayre Fire. Those fires charred acres and acres of land and destroyed many homes.
To get a better understanding of this year’s dangers, Councilmember Felipe Fuentes joined the Los Angeles Fire Department to fly over the district.
