Shaping the Future of AI for Conservation: Discussions on Priorities, Risks & Opportunities

Описание: The first International Conservation Technology Conference (ICTC 2026), hosted by WILDLABS and partners in Lima, Peru, brought together more than 600 participants from over 60 countries and across sectors to share ideas, build connections, and advance practical solutions for biodiversity.

Summary:
This session builds on insights from the 5-day “Shaping the Future of AI for Conservation” workshop held at the University of Oxford in September 2025, which brought together 40 AI researchers, ecologists, and conservation practitioners from more than 15 countries across Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. We focused our efforts on three core themes: (1) using AI to harness untapped social data to inform conservation; (2) building ecological foundation models, and (3) ensuring equity and inclusion in AI-driven conservation. Panellists representing each theme then share key takeaways on how these topics could shape the future of conservation, before opening a participatory discussion to explore opportunities, risks, and next steps for the conservation community.
