This profile documentary was produced, scripted, researched and directed by me for Sahitya Akademi. One of the legends of fiction and narratives in India, Vijaydan Detha (Born : 1926) passed away yesterday (10th Nov. 2013). His writings has charmed, inspired and attracted several artists of other forms and genre who adopted and transformed his works in to their own genre taking them to the bigger audiences and public spheres, transcending political-language barriers.
Bijji was very close to me and used to love my own writings.
I've also made 10 short films based on his short stories of my own selection for Doordarshan. Needless to say, Bijji liked them all immensely.
Renowned filmmakers and theater maestro like Mani Kaul, Shyam Benegal, Prakash Jha, Habib Tanveer, Amol Palekar and others.
'Duvidha' by Mani Kaul (1972) screened in many international film festivals and received critical apprecians in Cannes and Berlin.
'Paheli' by Amol Palekar, starring Shahrukh Khan was nominated for the Oscar by the Government of India.
His demise is a huge loss to Indian language literature.I'm yet to come out of the grief while uploading this documentary-'Bijji'.
However, it's an old faded copy I had with me.It was shot in DG Beta format, long back.
