Named after Kenneth Kaunda, the grounds symbolize Pan-African unity and liberation history. From peace initiatives during the Lord's Resistance Army insurgency to regional parliamentary sittings in 2024, cultural festivals, Gulu City Marathon events, Oktoberfest celebrations, music concerts, and civic rallies — Kaunda Grounds remains the heartbeat of the Acholi community.
Privatizing it would:
Undermine customary land ownership
Limit access for cultural and civic engagement
Hurt local vendors and small businesses
Reduce space for peacebuilding and democracy
Erase symbolic Pan-African heritage
