Downtown Express (or METRO Bus Route 500) is an express bus that travels between William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Downtown Houston, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Since METRO Bus Route 500 is one of the longest bus routes in Houston METRO, this video will focus on traveling from Downtown Houston to Hobby Airport.

As of April 2026, the full fare to ride this bus is $4.50. I have used the RideMETRO Fare Card to tap my fare card at the fare card reader (red box but the bus operator). The bus departs every 30 minutes between 5:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (everyday).

After the southbound bus (direction to Hobby Airport) departs from Hobby Airport (HOU), the next stop will be Monroe Park & Ride. The bus makes a layover stop for 30 minutes at Monroe Park & Ride. After the layover, the bus resumes and travels north to Hobby Airport (HOU), Downtown Houston, and Bush Airport (IAH).
