While the name Cowpuncher’s Sandwich evokes some drunk cowboy getting into fisticuffs with a bovine creature, the term cowpuncher was in reference to them punching and prodding the cattle to get them move along when being herded. And I’m guessing their palates were somehow stunted because this sandwich from 1952’s “West Coast Cook Book” packs a powerful wallop.
