Practicing Piano with Our Blind Cat, Drome

Описание: We adopted Drome, a blind cat from the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand, one year ago. Drome was a miracle case; she arrived at the shelter after being shot in the face with an air rifle, which resulted in the loss of both her eyes.

Despite her traumatic past, she settled into our Bangkok home with incredible speed. She gets along wonderfully with our dogs and never ceases to amaze us—she navigates every inch of the house, from floor to ceiling, as confidently as any sighted cat.

Drome used to relax on a kitchen chair while I practiced, but lately, she’s decided the piano keys are her favorite place to nap. Now, I simply practice around her, using whatever space on the keyboard she hasn't claimed.

A note on the audio: I am playing on an upright practice piano in our kitchen. To keep the volume down, I have the practice pedal (felt muffler) engaged. This is why the piano has a unique, muted quality — a soft, quiet sound that Drome happens to like. Thank you for understanding.
