MY TRAILER FOR:
The Juan De Fuca Trail and The Kludahk Trail
114.5km/71 miles, 8 days, Vancouver Island, Canada
"Oh I feel so good! I'm starting to get into that machine mode where I'm just like - the backpack has become one with me and my hips can swing a little to the beat of "I'm Alive" by Celine Dion."
*****************
WHAT TO EXPECT:
me flinging myself into the slug filled rainforest and the boggy, horsefly ridden, seemingly ever-expansive alpine forests of the of the Pacific coastline of Canada, conversing with slugs, not stepping on them, and patiently waiting for them to leave the plot of land where I am to place my tent
a thick, lush, demanding, and entrancing rainforest splayed over a hilly terrain that when mapped out resembles that of a heart rate monitor when the attached heart is thumping madly:
Like SO: --/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\--
the fear of bears
rocks that act as cartoon banana peels
me being baffled by Canada's beauty after being away from it for 9 years
birds confusing me
butterflies distracting me
spicy bean dip
the CUTEST huts
campsites with cutting boards
horseflies that fly faster than I can run
a hilarious entry in a cabin's diary of visitors
an awkward canoe ride
tears, joy, pride, delusion, and more; the normal!

THE LONGER SUMMARY
Watch as Gay Man Walking embarks on another adventure! This time connecting the Juan De Fuca Trail with the Kludahk Trail, both found running parallel to each other somewhere near the coast of Vancouver Island. He would like to get out of the way first and foremost that his fear of bears is present, real, persistent, and actually probably kept him singing songs in the woods more than ever before, you know, to scare away bears and to keep him company (singing creates echos, echos become friends singing with Ross). The Juan De Fuca is incredibly popular, runs along the coast on the Pacific Ocean, and is appropriately covered in slugs and water. The Kludahk trail is neighbouring it, run by volunteers, is not popular as it's kind of unheard of, and only had like one slug. Both had seven thousand bears, as proven by the many bear poos, his imagination, and because he chose to believe that every tree rustling loudly around him was one coming to steal him and/or his backpack full of cheese (re: imagination). Guys it was problem. But he survived! Also, he fell in love with Canada again and fully understands why the bears haven't just like got up and moved to Tuscany.
Join him as he trudges for 8 days through the land of "No Cell Reception, No Pubs, and No Listening to Robyn because Headphones Stop You From Hearing Bears So No 90's Pop, Ross!" On that note, listening to Robyn as he gets mauled would be an alright way to go. Better off dying doing something one loves, right? Or so he told himself to help him carry on through the trail.
The ins-and-outs of his journey down the 114.5km combo-Canada-trail-extravaganza are here, for your entertainment, education, and misinformation. Who knows? Maybe through all the emotional confessionals, plethora of mistakes made, and overall doe-eyed enthusiasm Ross has for hiking most of the thing, you may gain some insight into what life could be like on trail, the Juan De Fuca and Kludahk Trail in general, and how to wait patiently for a slug to leave the space you are allotted to place your tent on (after all, this is a slug's world and we're just tripping through it).
Feel free to send him a message here if you have any questions, comments, concerns, feedback, free money, pizza, or just want to tell him the answers to so many of the questions he asks about the nature he films yet know absolutely nothing about. Buckle in for a wild ride of emotions, bee stings, awkward canoe rides, and Ross pretty much being overwhelmed by the spectacular and sheep free nature of Canada...Enjoy!
