Herman van Rompuy BIA VIP visit

Описание: There are a few moments in life which stay with one and this feeling seems to be mutual amongst the Born in Africa camp. On Monday the 7th of August 2023 we hosted Count Mr. Herman van Rompuy and his family in Plettenberg Bay. Mr Van Rompuy served as the Prime Minister of Belgium and was selected as the President of the European Council. Him and his wife Geertrui Windels have been loyal supporters since the establishment of Born in Africa in 2003. His family is also very closely involved and collectively are godparents to 6 Born in Africa children.
The family, comprising of 17 in total travelled throughout South Africa in celebration of Mr. Van Rompuy’s 75th Birthday. The couple, their 4 children as well as grandchildren spent the beautiful winter’s sunny day with Born in Africa director Isabelle Brink. They visited various projects hosted by Born in Africa in The Crags, Wittedrift, as well as Kranshoek. The very special day included meeting and visiting their godchildren’s homes and family, attending concerts at 3 of the schools we work at, meeting teachers, school principals as well as being entertained by Born in Africa learners and staff.
Days like this are incredibly special. They embody exactly what Born in Africa stands for. For the last 20 years we have been working very hard in Bitou to establish an ethos where hope is given to the youth. With the necessary mentorship support, anything is possible with hard work and dedication. No matter your circumstances, we believe if you are able to attend school and make use of resources available, one day you will be able to further your studies and pursue your dream career. You just need someone to tell you this, who has done exactly the same!
