I keep both ringneck doves and white homing pigeons for my dove release company.
I would not suggest letting your doves loose outside like I did in the video. Ringneck doves do not have a homing instinct like the homing pigeon.
Once the dove looses sight of your house it's lost pretty much and defenseless against predators. In the white dove release business we release white homing pigeons and never doves. This is something most people don't know. My homing pigeons will beat me home from the cemetary which 13 miles from my house where I do funeral releases. The doves are for display only.
My ringneck doves seemed to enjoy the freedom outside the aviary as long as they stay within view of the yard. They all made it home however a neighbor a few blocks away found one of the doves sitting in the tree lost.
