The next stage in foot drill is the Open and Close Order at the Halt in Two Ranks. The reason this movement is taught is to enable an individual or a body of men to dress in Close Order in three ranks, after inspection, fixing or unfixing bayonets or being drilled, in a smart, uniform manner.
