Discussion | Outsourcing vs in-sourcing

Описание: The Industrial Action Report 2017/2018 says South Africa experiences an average of 85 strikes per annum, showing that ±335,000 workers mostly in mining are responsible for 5.2 million working days lost per year.

Outsourcing is a practice usually undertaken by companies as a cost-cutting measure. It is considered a fairly new concept in SA.
But as the National Union of Metalworkers, (NUMSA) and the South African Cabin Crew Association, (SACCA), embarked on a strike at SAA, Outsourcing kept creeping up as one of the core reasons SAA is in debt and unable to pay workers.

This prompted a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of Outsourcing vs in-sourcing. We're joined this morning on the line, from the National Labour department, by Thembinkosi Mkhaliphi, the Chief Director for labour policy and industrial Relations, and the MMC for Corporate and shared services in the city of Joburg, Dr Valencia Ntombi Khumalo .
