First Night Camping in the Native American-Style Longhouse - E.4 - Covering it with Bark

Camping in and Building a Primitive Bark-Roofed Bushcraft Shelter - The Longhouse. Me, Shawn James of My Self Reliance, Ted Baird and Doug Linker were finally able to get back together for another round of work on the longhouse. Staying at Shawn's off-grid cabin, we first prepared bear chilli and left it on the fire to cook before starting the daunting task to complete covering the longhouse in bark.

Sourcing Ash trees from Shawn's property we were able to compleat the build after a lot of work collecting materials. Due to a nasty injury on my hand, I was not able to help much (more on my injury in my next video), though I did pitch in, doing some de-barking, hauling materials and building a tripod pot hanger to cook dinner.

We managed to get more done than we'd thought and we spent our first night sleeping in the longhouse which was a lot of fun. I'd put my injured had through enough and I left the following morning, heading for a motorboat camping trip on Lake Temagami. Ted, Doug and Shawn put in a big chunk of work after I left and managed to finish completely covering the longhouse!

The next steps in this project will be building sleeping platforms and more additional platforms for food and other storage purposes.
