Court rules on timeline of WBK village evacuation

A timeline will be decided for the evacuation of Khan-al Ahmar, a Palestinian village with a strategic location in the center of the West Bank.

STORY-LINE:
The Israeli Supreme Court said on Sunday that they will decide on the timeline of the evacuation of the Palestinian village of Khan-al Ahmar within 45 days.
The high court already decided in 2018 that the village should be razed but the demolition keeps getting delayed.
On Sunday it answered a petition from the pro-settlement group Regavim demanding answers on why the village has not been evacuated yet.
The Palestinians are "still under the dangers of demolition of Khan al-Ahmar," says lawyer Tawfiq Jabareen, who said he was not happy with the court's decision.
The "residents of Khan al-Ahmar can live in Khan al-Ahmar and only in Khan al-Ahmar," he added.
Khan al-Ahmar is located a few dozen meters from a four-lane highway that runs east-west, effectively slicing the West Bank in half at a narrow waist and linking Jerusalem with the Jordan Valley.
The highway is also flanked by several Israeli settlements, including Maaleh Adumim, the West Bank's third largest.
The 180 residents of Khan al-Ahmar are members of the Jahalin Bedouin tribe that has lived in the area since being expelled from the southern Negev Desert after Israel's establishment in 1948.
The United Nations granted them refugee status.
In 2018, major European countries have warned that flattening Khan al-Ahmar poses a grave threat to the already fading prospects of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The seemingly outsized international attention that was paid to the tiny community at the time was linked to its strategic location in the center of the West Bank.
